Shining our employee spotlight on our team members is one of our favorite things because without them establishing relationships and providing service that is second to none, we couldn’t deliver the smooth settlements on which we pride ourselves. This time, we are shining our employee spotlight on Krista Windschitl, Senior Processor in McLean & Arlington.
Krista is from Roanoke, Virginia and grew up a huge Hokies fan. She graduated from Virginia Tech with a degree in Marketing and Business Management, and after moving to Northern Virginia, she began her career in real estate. Not knowing what a title company did, Krista started at Highland Title + Escrow and dove in head first as a junior settlement processor. Krista was invested in everything around her and learned each closing step from start to finish before becoming a Virginia Certified Title Examiner in 2012 to assist in the title abstractor review for the entire company. Krista was the settlement transaction coordinator for Highland Title + Escrow files and eventually returned to being a settlement processor. She took on the District of Columbia cases and is now a senior processor for Virginia and DC files.
A typical day for Krista includes reviewing files, answering many questions from buyers, sellers and real estate agents, balancing lender numbers for Closing Disclosures, talking to clients about the settlement process and trying to make everyone’s real estate closing a smooth and enjoyable experience!
Speaking of buyers, sellers and agents, Krista is a part of the most important purchase in someone’s life, and she loves talking to clients while getting them to that next step. The settlement process can be stressful, and she strives to be the calming, cheerful voice at the end of the line or email. Everyone shares their important stories, and she is happy to be part of each settlement.
The Highland Title + Escrow team has one goal, to make the home buying and selling process as painless as possible! Like a family, everyone has their time to shine. Everyone is knowledgeable, and it’s always fun to bounce ideas off one another. She loves her team, and working for Mike McFarlane has been a treat from the first day. (After the pandemic, Krista felt like the only one who wanted to come into the office because she wanted to see her co-workers, who made her work day so much brighter.)
If you want to work in the industry, Krista recommends learning that everything can change instantly! Multi-tasking and pivoting keep you on your toes; there is always something new to learn.
When not working at Highland Title + Escrow, Krista travels with her boyfriend, Alex. They live in Ballston and spend time with Links and Phoebe, their two cats. (Links became Krista and Alex’s cat after Kathy Kallok rescued him.) You might find her trying out new dinner spots with her three best girlfriends, whom she has known since elementary school, spending time with family and learning to cook. Krista Windschitl can answer any settlement questions or questions about Links and Phoebe at krista@highlandtitle.com. Stay tuned for our next spotlight.
